Working…
A black box hides nothing
Most tools lay a rectangle over the text. On screen, it is hidden. In the file, the text is still there: copy and paste brings it back. Here the page is redrawn as an image with its boxes, and the original text is not copied over.

Method
- 01
Your browser reads the file
The PDF is opened in memory, on your machine, by an open-source library (PDF.js). Nothing is uploaded.
- 02
Sensitive data is found
Emails, phone numbers, IBANs, French social security numbers, dates, addresses: found by pattern. You point out the rest.
- 03
The page is rebuilt
Drawn as an image with the boxes, then put into a new PDF (pdf-lib). The file downloads from your memory.
Questions
How can I check that nothing is sent?
The network witness counts the requests the page makes after the file is opened. For independent proof, open the Network tab of the developer tools, or disconnect. The tool keeps working.
Is there a size limit?
Your device’s memory. A few hundred pages are fine on a recent computer; redacting a long document takes longer, because each redacted page is redrawn.
Is the redacted PDF still searchable?
Redacted pages are not: they are images, the price of safety. Pages without boxes keep their text.
What about password-protected PDFs?
For redaction, you type the password in the page; it stays in your browser too, and the new file is no longer protected. To merge or split, remove the protection first.
Does automatic detection find everything?
No. Patterns find known formats (email, checked IBAN, checked French social security number…) and names that follow a title. Read the page, search for what is missing and draw areas for the rest.
